Renowned Edinburgh restaurateur, Fred Berkmiller, L’Escargot Bleu, and Land of Food and Drink ambassador chef, travelled to Shetland in October 2018 to discover the island’s produce and people and attend the Taste of Shetland Festival, the highlight of the island’s ‘foodie’ calendar. His trip was hosted by Highlands & Islands Enterprise as part of a drive to promote and grow the region’s local food and drink economy and to support the work Taste of Shetland, the local food and drink group. Fred talks to Connect Local about his experience and, in so doing, hopes to inspire others about the quality of the island’s larder.
